Description: The Murat Shrine Temple, today known as the Old National Centre, is located at 502 North New Jersey Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Murat Temple, completed in 1909 based on designs by Oscar D. Bohlen of D.A. Bohlen and Sons Architects, features Middle Eastern and Egyptian elements including brick banding, minarets, and stained glass. The building was constructed as a temple for the city’s Shriners, a fraternal organization associated with the Freemasons. Today, the building is most known for its theater, opened in 1910, and Egyptian-styled auditorium, added during an expansion in 1922. This photograph depicts a view of the building from the intersection at East Michigan and North New Jersey Streets.
