Description: |
Reproduction of a view of the American Car and Foundry Co. by Richard W. Rummel. Visible are several buildings and shops of the company, electric trolley cars, lumber yards, railroad tracks, and the Ohio River in the distance. Rummell was an American artist who specialized in panoramic bird’s-eye views of cities, towns, and college campuses. Beginning in 1864 as the Ohio Falls Car and Locomotive Company, the American Car and Foundry Co. manufactured rail coach, parlor, baggage, mail, and private cars. During World War I the company produced military items such helmets, wagons, tables, and cots. The works closed in 1933, a victim of the depression and the country’s growing reliance on automobiles. |
