Plan of the Town of Clarksville approved by the Board of Trustees ... January 5, 1788

Description: Plat map of Clarksville, Ind., as adopted by the town trustees on January 5, 1788, and showing lot numbers, size of lots, Mill Creek, and the Ohio River. Streets are indicated, but not named. The map is signed by General George Rogers Clark, chair of the trustees. Since most of the trustees lived in Louisville at this time, the early meetings of the board were held there, accounting for the plat being approved in Louisville and not Clarksville. The lots were sold in four actions held between 1786 and 1794. The map is a true copy of the original done by Victor W. Lyon in April 1894, and taken from pages 2 and 3 of the Clarksville Trustees record book. What is shown is a section of a larger map titled Plan of the 1000 acres of land laid off for the Town of Clarksville by Victor W. Lyon in 1894.
