Aerial view of Clarksville and Jeffersonville, Indiana

Description: Aerial photograph of Clarksville and Jeffersonville before the construction of Interstate 65. The view is looking south across the Ohio River to Louisville. The Ohio flows downriver from left to right. Highway 31 runs from the lower left and crosses the Clark Memorial Bridge into downtown Louisville. Clarksville is located to the right of the highway along the river and Jeffersonville to the left. Railroad tracks run parallel to the highway, and as they approach the river, turn to the right and cross on the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge. In the left middle a railroad spur runs to the top left and crosses the river on the Big Four Bridge. Also visible is the single runway of Haps Airport (center right), the Falls of the Ohio (below the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge), and part of the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot (top left alongside the railroad spur). When completed in the early 1960s, Interstate 65 would run parallel to Highway 31 and cross the river over the new Kennedy Bridge slightly upriver from the Clark Memorial Bridge.
