Indiana Reformatory cleanup after fire, 1918

Description: Photograph of a team of mules and wagon with inmates clearing the rubble after the 1918 fire at the Indiana Reformatory, Clarksville, Ind. Although there were no casualties, the fire destroyed a large part of the prison. Rather than rebuild, the state decided to build a new prison in Pendleton, Ind., and in 1923 sold the buildings and property to the Colgate Co. for a soap manufacturing facilty.
