Doris Vaught interview

Description: Undated interview with Doris Vaught. Born in 1913, Vaught was raised in Gallatin County, Ky. Following World War II she and her husband moved to Clarksville, Ind., because of his job. Except for two years in Cincinnati, Vaught lived in Clarksville until her death in 2016. Vaught talks about growing up on her fathers farm in Gallatin County, using steamboats as the means of transportation between Cincinnati and Louisville, her mothers death from cancer, and her fathers suicide after losing his farm during the Depression. When they first moved to Clarksville, Clinton and Doris Vaught lived at the corner of Carter Ave. and Eastern Blvd. Vaught taught at Mculloch School for 22 years and was a long-time member of Howard Park Christian Church. During the interview, Vaught mentions several business, including Heckelmans Grocery, McClures Drug Store, The Ranch House, and Cliffs Truck Stop. The interview was a project of the Clarksville Historical Society.
