Pendleton prison construction, August 25, 1922

Description: Photograph of the interior of the temporary dining room at the new Pendleton Prison. In 1918 a fire severely damaged the older Indiana Reformatory in Clarksville, Ind., one of the states two prisons for males. Instead of renovating the reformatory, Indiana decided to build a new prison in a more centrally located site, selecting a plot of land south of the city of Pendleton. The construction began in March 1922. The original facilities included three cell houses, a dormitory, and the administration building.
