Description: |
Photocopy reproduction of a page from William Clarks surveyors book. The page is undated, but circa 1785. The survey is for 1,000 acres of land on the northwest side of the Ohio River for the Town of Clarksville. The page provides details of the survey and a drawing of the surveyed land. The Illinois Grant, or Clarks Grant, was a tract of 150,000 acres of land granted in 1781 to George Rogers Clark and the soldiers who fought with him during the American Revolutionary War by the state of Virginia in payment for their service. The amount of land each soldier received depended on his rank. William Clark was selected to survey the initial grant and individual tracts. |
