| Description: |
Photograph of ice on the Ohio Rivers Dam No. 41 at Louisville, Ky., taken January 31, 1936. Across the top of the photo is the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, connecting Clarksville, Ind., and Louisville. Dam No. 41, constructed in the 1920s, included movable wicket, Boule, and Chanoine sections. In the 1960s work was completed to modernize the locks and replace the old dam with a fixed concrete Z-shaped dam with upper and lower Tainter gates. The new dam and locks were renamed McAlpine Locks and Dam. |
