This is the area farthest south in the plant next to the bag manufacturing buildings.Aerial photographs of Indiana Army Ammunition Plant located between Highway 62 and the Ohio River in Charlestown, Indiana. Photographs taken by Ron Repp in 1985.Originally the manufacturing facility was known as Indiana Ordnance Works (built in 1940-41), Hoosier Ordinance Plant (built in 1941) and Indiana Ordnance Works Plant 2 (built in 1944-45). On 30 November 1945 at the end of WWII, the plants were combined and renamed Indiana Arsenal. Between 1 November 1961 and 1 August 1963, the facility was known as Indiana Ordnance Plant. After this time, it was known as Indiana Army Ammunition Plant (INAAP). The manufacture of black powder ended in October 1992. In 1995, the federal government reorganized the facility by leasing the property and building to various businesses. It was renamed Facility One. The federal government donated some of the lands to the State of Indiana to create Charlestown State Park. Other lands were sold in to private ownership and to a land development company. The federal government left the property on 31 October 2016.1. view looking southeast at inert storage 1500 buildings, water tower 6013.
