Korean War Letter from Oscar E. Bottorff to Jesse G. Dorsey 8 Jun 1951

O.E. was home on leave 16 days because of the birth of his twins. He was transferred to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Naval base there is like every other naval base. He is working as a squadron corpsman and started intensive training exercises. His duty station allows him to watch the flight deck to see the planes take off and land. He has applied for a discharge and hopes to get it soon. This letter is part of the Jesse G. Dorsey Korean War Correspondence collection. Dorsey was the Director of Recreation and Welfare and editor of the Speed-O-Meter newsletter for the Louisville Cement Company. Dorsey began sending monthly letters and the Speed-O-Meter to local service personnel during WWII. He continued this through the Korean War and for sometime afterwards. |
