Description: This is a map of the light manufacturing and warehousing areas at Facility One I INAAP in Charlestown, Indiana from 1995. Facility One was the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.The United States federal government began acquiring land in Charlestown, Indiana in 1940 to build a smokeless powder ordnance plant to supply the US military during World War II. Indiana Ordnance Works (IOW) Plant 1 and Hoosier Ordnance Plant (HOP) began production in 1941. In 1944, IOW Plant 2 construction began. On 30 Nov 1945 at the end of WWII, the three plants were combined and renamed Indiana Arsenal. Between 1 Nov 1961 and 1 Aug 1963, the plant was designated Indiana Ordnance Plant. After this time, it became Indiana Army Ammunition Plant (INAAP). Production of ordnance continued at the plant until 1992. After that time, the land and facilities were leased to private industry. A large portion of the land became Charlestown State Park. In October 2016, all the land and facilities were officially sold by the government. This item is part of a larger collection of items from INAAP that are kept at Charlestown Library.
[photographs][map]FACILITY ONE I INAAPICI/INAAP INDUSTRIAL CENTERLIGHT MANUFACTURING & WAREHOUSINGThis area is conveniently located on Indiana State Road 62, a dual lane, divided highway, and is within 1 mile of the I-265 interchange which serves the metropolitan Louisville, KY area.WAREHOUSINGThere are 24 warehouses of 10,500 sq. ft. each, and 3 warehouses of 28,000 sq. ft. Each of these buildings has road and rail docks. Several have sprinkler protection, while others are heated. Office space and restrooms can be incorporated as required.LIGHT MANUFACTURING A total of 5 buildings, totaling 282,500 sq. ft., support light manufacturing operations. These range in size from 21,000 sq. ft. to 166,900 sq. ft., and many can be divided to provide smaller areas, if required. All have heat, sprinklers and offices.OTHER USESThis area is headquarters for the security and fire protection units, which also provide EMT and HAZMAT response capability. There are a gas station, a vehicle wash rack, tank truck inspection and weigh station, laundry facility, and several smaller general use buildings located in this area.For More Information Call 1-800-767-4201
