In Honor of Prof. Wm Bordens 150th Birthday Aug 18 1973, Borden, Indiana

Description: The Borden Institute Historical Society produced this booklet to tell the story of William W. Borden at the time of his 150th birthday which was 18 Aug 1973. The society worked to preserve the history of Borden, Indiana. The true name of Borden is New Providence but is more commonly referred to as Borden in honor of William Borden. The booklet includes a story of Borden’s life and recollections of people who knew him.William Borden used his wealth to build the Borden Institute. It was located on West Street near Summit Street. It was a college for teacher preparation and laboratory based scientific studies. It opened in 1884 and closed in 1906 when he died. In 1911, the institute building became the new Borden High School until 1955 when a new school was built. The Borden Institute building was torn down in 1983.
