Sellersburg, Indiana Utica Street 1900 post card

Description: Black and white photograph of Utica Street in Sellersburg, Indiana taken in 1900. The view is looking south from the intersection with New Albany Street. This was the center of Sellersburg. The road is dirt. There are many horse and buggies on the streets. Written on the photograph is P. Sellers photo taken 1900. Taken by Pinckney Sellers. The following is from an account of what the building were used for. On the left: a grocery owned by Dave Adkins; Sherrard Barber Shop which was originally built and used as a drug store by Matt Nichols, then in 1960 it and an adjoining building were Renaker 5 & 10c Store; a saloon operated by John Sellers and in 1960 was Sellersburg Electric Repair and Sales Shop; a store; a store; in 1960 A. Gladstein dry goods which was opened in 1906 on the other side of Utica Street, Gladstein bought the current building from Dave Adkins. On the right: front of building facing New Albany Street was a general store run by Arthur Sellers and the back of the building was a Millinery owned by Clara Packwood, this became the site of Sellersburg State Bank which became the Sellersburg Police Department; a small shed which was gone by 1960; in 1960 a dry goods store owned by Ella Callaway and previous her father had a jewelry store in this building; location of the Mayberry blacksmith shop which was replaced with a building moved from Belknaps Mill.
