Main Street, east side the 300 block south

Description: An entire city block, including the former Elks' Temple and the east side of the 300 block of South Main Street, pictured in Photo 1, was demolished in 1978 to allow construction of a new hotel, the Midway Motor Lodge. Sadly, by 1990 the hotel was bankrupt, and by 1999, it had been razed as well. Currently, the block is known as Civic Plaza and hosts outdoor events on a regular basis. Plans to redevelop the Plaza block were recently approved.
