Ullery School

Description: The Ullery School building was purchased by the Urban League for $9,050 in 1978. The Elkhart Community School Board received bids for the property from only two groups. The south side school building located at Cleveland Avenue and Seventh Street was appraised at $7,750. Officials were forced to close the school in September 1977 when the roof began to leak. At the time only kindergarten through second grades were housed there. The students were transferred to Hawthorne Elementary School. (In previous years the structure had been used as a special education development center.) Bids for the purchase of the Ullery School building were accepted by the Elkhart Community School Board when they met on January 1, 1978.
