Beggs live steam toy train

Description: The first live-steam trains date from around 1870, although some undoubtedly were made earlier. Beggs made the first American live-steam toy engines in the 1870s and continued producing them into the early 1900s. Because the hauling power of live-steam engines was not very good, Beggs made its car bodies of cardboard covered with lithographed paper. The arrival of clockwork and electric trains brought an end to the era of the live-steamers.
