Description: |
These playing cards, dating from the 1970s, were originally designed by Jozsef Schneider, a playing card manufacturer in the 1830s in Budapest. The deck is called Tell-cards because it is based on the Swiss folktale of William Tell. The legend chronicles the rebelling of William Tell, a fine marksman, against the Austrian bailiff, Hermann Gessler, and the eventual revolt against Austrian rule to create the Old Swiss Confederacy, precursor to the modern day Switzerland. |
