Description: |
Storytellers are traditionally important characters in the lives of Pueblo children. They would gather around and listen as the elders told stories passed down from generation to generation. The pottery figurines, called storytellers celebrate this tradition. Storytellers teach about Pueblo culture, heritage and beliefs through abstract stories full of symbolism and lore. Artists continue to create unique and inventive figures like this figure of a Rabbi storyteller. Non-Native Arizona artist, R.C. Ramey crafted this Pueblo-style Jewish version of a storyteller complete with a yarmulke, a tallith, and torah scrolls in 1999. |
