Description: |
Teaching young children the alphabet without destroying the book can be a challenge. In the United States and England, children used a table-tennis sized paddle with the alphabet and the Lord’s Prayer written on it. To protect the paper, thin sheets of horn were placed over the top. This is a 1971 example of a child’s hornbook used during the 1600s and 1700s. |
