Description: |
Nesting dolls, originally created in Russia, were fairly quickly adopted by Polish folk artists. However, unlike delicate Russian sets, Polish nesting dolls were made to be much sturdier because they were created to be childrens toys. Thus, many Polish sets represent popular fairytales, including Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and Cinderella. This set, created in 1971, depicts the story of Little Red Riding Hood, first published in writing by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (of the famous Brothers Grimm from Germany) in 1812. The largest figure represents the wolf, the middle-sized figure the Grandmother and the smallest figure Red Riding Hood |
