Description: |
The Mexican Hat Dance (or Jarabe Tapatio), which is Mexicos National Dance, is a courtship dance that originated from the state of Jalisco. During the dance a man tosses his sombrero on the floor in front of a woman. If she accepted him, she danced on the hats wide brim. The dance is performed during fiestas and celebrations such as Carnival. The woman would wear this colorful outfit called China Poblana. The colors - green, red and white - represent the colors of the Mexican flag. If you look closely at the sequin design, you can see Mexicos national symbol: an eagle standing on a cactus with a snake in its talons. |
