Description: |
Flamenco is Spanish music and dance typical of the Gitano (Gypsy). Flamenco dancing is characterized by colorful costumes (skirts for the women), intense movements, stamping of the feet also known as zapateado and clapping of the hands. Flamenco is usually danced to an intense song accompanied by a guitar. It is believed that flamenco music originated in Andalusia, Spain, from the intense canto hondo or deep song (a song that goes deep in the soul) accompanied by a guitar in the early 19th century. Flamenco dancing is now a very popular form of entertainment throughout the regions. This particular woman’s dress dates from the early 1980s. |
