Description: |
In 1984 the Colts moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, the same year this helmet was made. Today, football inspires people all over the world, but 100 years ago very few people knew anything about American style football. An adaptation of English rugby, football began in the United States as college competition between elite universities like Harvard, Yale and Princeton. The National Football League, founded in 1922, was not as popular as college football until nationally televised games in the 1960s. Pro football offered opportunities for talented players to compete. Many early players were minorities including Native Americans, African Americans, Irish Americans and others who faced discrimination in other arenas. |
