Description: |
In 1900 an unknown dancer represented Martha Washington, the first lady of the new republic, in a dance recital. She personified Mrs. Washington about 110 years after George Washington became President of the United States. Known as “Lady Washington” during Washington’s presidency, many admired Martha’s spirit during the Revolutionary War and her cordial hosting of guests during her husband’s Presidency. |
