Description: |
This unusual fossil was discovered among the jumbled bones of a duckbill dinosaur bone bed. At this site in central South Dakota thousands of duckbill bones can be found piled together like jack straws. This rare skin impression was also found. This specimen distinctly shows the scales and texture of the duckbill dinosaur skin. It’s called a skin impression since it is not truly fossil skin, but an imprint that has been preserved for more than 65 million years. |
