Description: |
Some believe that the ngoni, or plucked folk lute, originated in ancient Egypt. Today, it is found throughout many countries of West Africa. Made in several different sizes, it is called by many different names depending upon the region. Many refer to it as the “African guitar”. It is an instrument commonly used by griots, West African performers who maintain the oral tradition of a family, village, or leader by singing histories and tales while playing a stringed instrument. |
