Description: |
The Otavalo Indians of Ecuador produce some of the finest weavings and crafts. Many of their products are sold in the town of Otavalo at the Indian Market, one of the most famous and largest indigenous markets in South America. Otavalo is the center for more than 75 scattered Indian communities, with each being a weaving center. The rag dolls in traditional dress are the most famous and appealing crafts for the tourist. These two dolls depict a young man and woman in traditional Otavalo clothing. The men wear their long, braided, hair under a hat and wear white calf-length trousers and blue ponchos. The women’s colorful outfits consist of embroidered blouses, shoulder wraps and a variety of colored or gold beads. |
