Silver ankle bracelet with ghungru

Description: India has a very rich history in ornate clothing and jewelry. When dressed in formal attire for special occasions, women are often covered from head to toe in all types of jewelry, including headdresses, hair ornaments, earrings, pendants, belts, armlets, bracelets, hand and toe rings and anklets. Made of gold, silver and gemstones, jewelry varies in style from region to region. Anklets are worn while performing many forms of Indian dance. Not only do they look beautiful, but the sound they create enhances the dance steps. This type of ankle bracelet is worn by Tamil women in the region of Tamil Nadu, Southern India. They are worn for dances such as Kai Silambu Attam, a dance performed in temples during Amman festivals. The dancers wear ankle-bells and hold anklets in their hands, which make noise when shaken. The dance honors all female deities. This style of ankle bracelet is also very popular and is often worn as a part of daily dress.
