Great White Heron sculpture

Description: Self-taught wood-carver Robert Wagner of Columbus, Indiana, finished this red oak Great White Heron in March 2001 after working on it sporadically for over a year. Weighing about 25 pounds, the carving depicts a Florida heron, confident and elegant, according to Wagner, and made from his memory of seeing such water fowl on television. Wagner purchased special tools that allowed him to perfect the 200 feathers seen on the bird. Wagner says, You get the best carvings with the best tools!
