Description: |
A riq is a Middle Eastern tambourine, one of the oldest Arabic instruments. It’s different from a western tambourine in that it has large and heavy jingles. They create a solid ringing sound, unlike the high pitched sound of a western tambourine. Riq are played in a variety of different ways, ranging from simple side-to-side shaking, to elaborate finger striking, to exotic bell jingling. It is one of the most difficult and widely respected instruments to play and learn. Virtually all traditional percussion ensembles of Arabic music are led by the riq. |
