Description: |
Brr, winter can be cold outside! Pioneer settlers west of the Mississippi River quickly discovered the life saving warmth of a coat of buffalo hide. As wealthy Americans traveled to the American west on vacation or to a new home, the buffalo coat became fashionable for men throughout the United States. These coats were popular throughout the 1800s until the 1880s when commercial hunting almost led to the extinction of the buffalo, also known as the American Bison. |
