Description: |
On January 22, 1660 Englishman Samuel Pepys wrote in his diary of putting buckles on his shoes for the first time. A year later, King Charles II wore buckles for his coronation portrait by J.M. Wright. Between the 1660s and the 1770s, many men and women wore buckles on shoes. These two differently styled buckles were used during this time in Massachusetts. |
