Description: |
After the Civil War (1861-1865) in the United States, former soldiers held reunions to rekindle friendships and recall their service. Ribbons commemorating the reunions were worn by attendees. This ribbon was for the 1889 gathering of former Union soldiers (who wore blue uniforms) and Confederate soldiers (who wore gray uniforms) in Evansville, Indiana. The image shows Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendering to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox, Virginia on April 9, 1865. |
