Description: |
This is the upper and lower jaw of the guitarfish. It is common in the American Atlantic ocean from North Carolina to Yucatan, Mexico. The guitarfish is halfway between sharks and rays in body shape. Its body is long and rounded with well developed dorsal fins like a shark, but its pectoral fins are well developed and the gill slits are on the underside of its body like rays and skates. It is a bottom dweller and feeds on crustaceans and mollusks and to some extent algae. There are about 45 different species of guitarfish found throughout the world. |
