Description: |
The Musk Ox can be found in northern Canada and Greenland inhabiting the tundra. This animal is superbly equipped for harsh weather with a dense undercoat of fur which neither cold nor water can penetrate and an outer coat of very long hair. Its broad hoofs prevent it from sinking into the snow. Males produce a strong musky odor during mating season, hence the name. Musk ox live in herds of 100 or more and when threatened, they will form a circle facing outwards with horns lowered and young in the middle. Musk ox feed on grass, mosses, lichens and leaves. |
