Description: |
This moth is native to the island of Madagascar, where the larvae feed on a native vine. Massive jaws help the newly hatched caterpillar feed on plants. When ready, a special gland in the Moon moth produces silk to make a cocoon in which it grows into adulthood. Most moths fly by night, and rest with their wings open. Butterflies rest with their wings closed. The first primitive moths lived around 140 million years ago. |
