Description: |
Petoskey Stones are actually coral that lived during the Devonian Period, about 350 million years ago. This particular species is only found between the areas of Petoskey, Michigan and Traverse City, Michigan. Each “cell” is actually a tube where the animal lived, and each “eye” the mouth of the animal. These fossils can be found around Lake Michigan by road cuts, quarries, or anywhere rocks are found. |
