Fossil horseshoe Crab

Description: Horseshoe crabs are actually more closely related to spiders then crabs. Their tail is not a weapon; it is used to help flip it right side up if it should get turned over and acts as a rudder as it moves through the sand. These animals are classic living fossils. They are living examples of an otherwise extinct animal that has remained virtually unchanged over a long period of times. A Horseshoe crab found today would look and act just like this one did millions of years ago.
