Description: |
The Hmong people live throughout Southeast Asia and China. More than half of the Hmong population resides in Thailand, where they are divided into two groups: White and Blue. Hmong women traditionally make clothing for their families from cotton or hemp. The clothing is embroidered and decorated with silver jewelry. The women wear beautifully pleated skirts with bands of red, blue and white embroidery. Jackets are usually black satin with wide orange and yellow embroidered cuffs and lapels. Childrens clothing and hats are just as ornate with decorative embroidery and coins, as is this infant’s cap made about 1975. |
