Description: |
The Mound Builders were people who built mounds in a large area from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico and from the Mississippi River to the Appalachian Mountains. Emerging as an agricultural society and living in permanent villages, the Mississippian Mound Builder culture created highly developed and organized communities. They also produced fine ceramics, like this particular bowl, which dates from the Mississippian Period, AD 1000-1650. This pot was probably used for utilitarian purposes. |
