Description: |
Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church was established in Indianapolis in 1836. As it began to grow it was known as the Indianapolis Station of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Bethels church building at 414 West Vermont Street was built in 1869 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. In 2016 the cost of upkeep for Bethel became unsustainable for the congregation and they decided to sell the church to SUN Development & Management Corporation, which planned to develop the historic church building into a hotel. The hotel will be called Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites by Hilton on the Canal. Destination Indiana Bethel A.M.E. Church Journey |
