Maple Syrup Camp

Description: In the spring, when its sunny and temperatures are in the 40s, the sap begins to flow in sugar maple trees. The trees are tapped to collect this sugar water. When the buckets are full they are hauled back to the camp where the sugar water is boiled down to maple syrup.
Oran Henley was a farmer in 1900, an electrician at the electric light company in Carthage from 1910 to 1920, and a carpenter at a lumber company by 1930. He never listed his occupation as a photographer in a federal census, but according to the Carthage Centennial pamphlet he was the 1934 events official photographer. He owned studios with his wife in Carthage and nearby Knightstown. Bicentennial Train image.
