Indianapolis Redevelopment Commission Progress Report for 1959

Description: This 1959 progress report for the Indianapolis Redevelopment Commission provides updates on 10 redevelopment areas such as Project A, the project including Flanner House Homes. Project A is 178 acres, including part of Fall Creek, bounded by 10th, West and 16th Streets, Stadium Drive and Milburn Street. Originally devoted to industrial commercial and residential uses, this area is now predominatly a new residential section with adequate community and service facilities. Fall Creek Parkway, East Drive, connecting 16th Street and the hospital area, and the 11th Street thoroughfare have been completed. New streets within the area have been constructed and utility services installed. Land immediately west of the parkway has been transferred to the Department of Public Parks, and bottom land along Fall Creek will be transferred to the Flood Control Board. A parcel of land west of Crispus Attucks High School has been sold to the Board of School Commissioners. Land west of Fall Creek was sold to private businesses for industrial warehousing facilites. The new Fall Creek Parkway Y.M.C.A. has been completed on a parcel of land made available to Y.M.C.A. on West 10th Street. A fine community shopping center has been completed just north of 10th Street and west of West Street. 181 new single family homes have been completed and are individually owned. 26 double housing units and 146 apartment units have been completed. The entire area has been acquired and cleared, and all land has been sold, or dedicated, with the exception of two small area just south of 16th Street which is being held for disposition at a later date. Project A for all practical purposes is a completed project.
