Cleo Blackburn and Eleanor Roosevelt

Description: From the Indianapolis Recorder, November 30, 1957:“While praising Flanner House and the Board of Fundamental Education, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt expressed her regret that the nearly 200-home self-help housing project is exclusively Negro. Here for a meeting with the Farm Bureau, the former First Lady last Thursday paid a three-hour breakfast visit to Flanner House and toured its facilities, including the cannery and Morgan Health Center. While pleased with the beauty and neatness of the housing project, Mrs. Roosevelt admitted, “I’d feel much better about it if it were integrated.” She is pictured here with Cleo W. Blackburn, nationally prominent Flanner House head.”
