Description: |
This diary by prominent Indianapolis businessman and attorney Calvin Fletcher provides a unique view of life in Indianapolis during the mid-nineteenth century. He recorded his thoughts concerning current events, court cases, politics, and business affairs, and reflected on his family life. Interesting accounts written during the Civil War discuss the 28th United States Colored Troops and Fletchers efforts with Bethel AME Church pastor Willis Revels to aid the soldiers. Although Fletcher did not write consistently at first, his wife Sarahs diaries help fill in the gaps and offer another perspective. Exhibited as part of Treasures from the Collections - Celebrating 175 Years: 1830-2005.Third rotation. |
