Description: |
The settlement buildings are in the background near the Wabash River. Two wild pigs forage on a dirt road at the edge of the woods. Birds are in the sky. Swiss artist Karl Bodmer created this aquatint from drawings made during his extended stay in New Harmony, Indiana, while traveling the North American frontier. Bodmers patron, Prince Maximilian of Wied (Germany), particularly enjoyed the utopian community, where he worked closely with naturalists collecting botanical specimens. |
