ERA YES Button

Description: The green metal button has white lettering. It represents a second wave in the struggle for womens rights. The Equal Rights Amendment, like the suffrage movement, bitterly divided men and women on both sides in a battle to define and possibly alter the role of women in society. Initially introduced in 1923, the amendment finally passed Congress in 1972 and went to the states for ratification. Indiana was the last state to ratify the ERA in 1977. The amendment ultimately failed to pass in enough states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
