Four Civil War Soldiers

Description: Pictured here are four Civil War soldiers from the Eightieth Regiment Indiana Volunteers: Colonel Lewis Brooks of Loogootee; Lieutenant Colonel James L. Culbertson of Edwardsport; Major John W. Tucker of Orleans; and Adjutant Alfred Dale Owen of New Harmony. During the Civil War it was a common practice to pose for a carte-de-visite. Inexpensive to produce, these portrait cards bore information such as ones name and address. People often collected and displayed cartes-de-visite in albums.
