Description: |
Group portrait of employees of a timekeeping employment branch in Jeffersonville in 1919, likely taken at the Quartermasters depot, a permanent depot built during the Civil War. A number of women are pictured, which is not surprising for this time. In the 1910s, factories began hiring women as clerks in their timekeeping departments and over the following decade it would become an increasingly female-dominated profession. The department was managed by Captain H. H. Crites. |
